Mod 2
It is about being different learners and learning disabilities. I am going to special education and see all the time different learners. As I learn more in college I experience learning more about how to cope and deal with teaching someone with that case. My sister has a Disabilities that is Spina Bifida and she was born handicap and will be for the rest of her life so I had to adapt to make sure she was always comfortable and active with life. The Book mentions Stephan Hawkings I love what he did with his disability and not caring about what other people say, I met Stevie Hopkins who is an advocate for the disability community that represents 3EL. He and I met back in 2015 at convection, He is such a great guy who is now my Facebook friend. Those two are strong men who do not have a disability defined them. I am even more excited to learn about Special Education and Learning disabilities.
It is about Language development. On paid page 184 It talks about Five related strategies for younger students I do feel like those are good for helping children in a way when we are in a stage to figure out each child. Dual language or a second language is something I wish I had. As stated my fiance was born in Mexico and his first language is Spanish and I love learning about his culture or language. He is the reason I am thinking of going for my ELL degree It is so important to learn and it will be the most important class that students will take. As Beto my fiance says is that his teacher who taught him English was the hardest yet best teacher he ever had... during the class time he hated her but after he admires her and was thankful for everything she has done. That is the reason I would go for ELL masters is so I can teach Special education and even English Language Learners,
I agree with you and wish I could speak and understand a second language. I tried to learn French in college, but I found it really difficult and finally gave up. I guess I wasn't in that ideal stage of life for language learning. I wish you success in learning Spanish. I think you have a real advantage in having a partner who is a native speaker.
ReplyDeleteThe reason for your passion for ELL is really something special. I myself came to the USA at a young age and had a ESL teacher who made a huge impact in my life and i am very grateful for her. She helped me to not only perfect my English but she also helped me to perfect my writing. ESL and ELL teachers. Are life changers for immigrants and those who don't speak fluent English.
ReplyDeleteHaving a physical disability myself, more so than a mental or learning disability. I agree that a disability is different for everyone which they can learn either way. I understand how having a disability may make you feel left out at times. That is so cool that you met Steve Hopkins and that you are Facebook friends with him now. I also strongly agree that the disability you have does not define you. There is so much more to a person, like their intelligence and such. We are humans first before anything, a disability is just something you have to deal with.
ReplyDeleteReading this I can really see your passion for ELL and that is really cool. I think learning another language would be something that I would want to do as well. I have seen a lot of students in my placements who have trouble with English and it can be discouraging for them. I think teachers should make an effort in helping these students understand things better and the students would absolutely benefit from this in a big way.
