Module 5!

Assumptions to guide the design of learning
- Experts have deep conceptual knowledge
This is for teachers because as teachers we do this everyday as we have knowledge in one topic or subject and pass it along to our students as even if there is a topic that is not certain on we must get information and and facts to be familiar with topics be an expert in that topic.
-Learning comes from the learner
I had a placement teacher that always told me I have the best lessons when the topic makes me learn from the students. She said when she has an assignment she always wrights down at the beginning of the page "what I already knew about this topic" and on the bottom of the page "what I learned about your topic"
-Schools must create effective learning environments
Most of the schools I went to are very connection to the students. My favorite is when teachers put artwork of what students do in the classroom as they are all over the halls. I saw my kindergarten students always show me all the fun things that they created as they would do every time they put something new. My teachers would tell her students to make the best artwork because the whole school will see it,
-Prior Knowledge and beliefs are key
This goes with the same  when the learning comes from the learner. Kids do have knowledge to there own lifestyle and it is important to ask them before reading a book or any assignment a lot of kids have a story behind it, I have noticed this even with my own placement I would bring up for example a farm and then 10 kids say they all have something to do with a farm, but it does get them engaged.
-Reflection is necessary to develop deep conceptual knowledge
At my placement they have a skit that represents the topic and there are three groups that all script and the kids have to memorize there lines and show that they know about the topic and if they need help learning a part of the topic.
My cooperation teacher would always teach me to make a schedule that you follow every day so they have a pattern and they feel like they are in charge of what goes on in the day.  She said sometimes she through curve balls in there so they can see that changes are good and keeps them thinking.
Collaboration is huge.. you need to communicate with other teachers to work together. I am taking a class now that is a collaboration class just focused for teachers.

Module 4

Mod 4!

First concept is Classroom management. Every Teacher needs to have a management system with a scheduled or rules. As the Video was a great reference for teachers to see steps to become a teacher with a management system.  I was really focus as they were listing each of the ways for management I found my self taking notes. I Love when she said "telling me to get in trouble or get them out of trouble" I feel that to be a respectable way to say I do not want hear it. Also Hand signals because I Know Sign language and sometimes I do speak sign with out me knowing. I would use the bathroom one or maybe use the sign "water" if they want to go get a drink. This could be use for GED or Sped classes as they would work for anyone as it is fun to use as it would be just for having a question or answer with your hand raised. I like the misery student as they can you focus on them and every student would want to make sure they are always on the same page.

Having a Reinforcement in a classroom is very important as in the book it mentions with consequences as Behavior -------> Reinforce  has of the Effect to Strengthen or repeated behavior. In the book it mentions Kinds of Reinforcement and Punishment on page 269 you can see there is picture that is a great example of each and ways it works. As there are different ways to view behavior..

Contingency Contracts -> A contract between the teacher and a student specifying what a student must do to earn a particular reward or privilege. Example ~ In a observation the teacher had all her students go to a wall where they had to write by there name a goal that they want to accomplish by the end of the day and then when they pick about 3 rewards if they succeed 1) More Free time 2) One of the homework to be waved. 3) Extra Gym or recess time at the end of the week.  This was for a kindergarten Special Education class so it was much harder for each student to work on that goal.

Token Reinforcement System-> System in witch tokens earned for academic work and positive classroom behavior can be exchanged for some desired reward. Example- a lot of teacher do this one as they would use maybe sticks or marbles and if they fill the glass or have about 50 sticks they get a prize to either toy or extra free time

Bulling is a big thing as starting as a young age all the way to adults- I know some people think that being a bully to someone is only face to face but in the book there is 6.. Physical, Verbal, Social/Relational, Cyber (Online), Identity (Racial, Religion, Disability)  and Sexual (Male or Female). I know everyone has experienced at least as one of the ones I have mentioned. Just reading the statics on page 533 is so sad. I feel like all schools say the have a "Zero Tolerance rule" but I feel like there is no way there a school can prevent a whole student body. The most they can do is spread it was words and posters. I could keep going when it comes to bulling. Table 13.6 has good points about The Ideas for dealing with cyber bulling.

Mod 3

Chapter 8 cognitive use of learning

This chapters more About memory with Having it to be long term sensory or working. Also Talks about perception, this one is a big one For teachers Because we don't think about how our students see things differently than we do. Even when it comes to the alphabetThere's different ways to write certain letters or numbers.Image result for different ways you can write an ! This is a great example of perception when it comes to how different people see it. Now we all know there is a four but it is more the way we draw it out. Since I don't have a replacement yet this semester last semester they do a calendar where they Talk about the days of the week and the weather. They also do this thing was they count how many days of kindergarten So far, As my students right there seven like the first one, I wrote my seven like the second one. Image result for different ways you can write an 7 One of the kids says that's not how you write a seven. I did explain to them that, there are different ways to write it Because their teacher told me I should explain.
When It comes to Memorization I am awful unless I keep drilling it in my head. Sometimes I believe we make memorize way more then we need. On test, we make them memorize the whole test just for them to take it and then once that class is over. With young kids to adults, we have Terms, Names, Facts, and rules. In my placement, they read a book a couple days ago and then maybe like 3 days later the teacher was asking all these questions about the plot or what was happing with one of the main characters. These were kindergarten children, they are not memorizing what is happening in that book.  In my opinion, the best way to memorize is to keep writing it out, going back and forth on two separate papers and writing each thing out with Examples.

Mod 2

It is about being different learners and learning disabilities. I am going to special education and see all the time different learners. As I learn more in college I experience learning more about how to cope and deal with teaching someone with that case. My sister has a Disabilities that is Spina Bifida and she was born handicap and will be for the rest of her life so I had to adapt to make sure she was always comfortable and active with life. The Book mentions Stephan Hawkings I love what he did with his disability and not caring about what other people say, I met Stevie Hopkins who is an advocate for the disability community that represents 3EL. He and I met back in 2015 at convection, He is such a great guy who is now my Facebook friend. Those two are strong men who do not have a disability defined them.  I am even more excited to learn about Special Education and Learning disabilities.

It is about Language development. On paid page 184 It talks about Five related strategies for younger students I do feel like those are good for helping children in a way when we are in a stage to figure out each child. Dual language or a second language is something I wish I had. As stated my fiance was born in Mexico and his first language is Spanish and I love learning about his culture or language. He is the reason I am thinking of going for my ELL degree It is so important to learn and it will be the most important class that students will take. As Beto my fiance says is that his teacher who taught him English was the hardest yet best teacher he ever had... during the class time he hated her but after he admires her and was thankful for everything she has done. That is the reason I would go for ELL masters is so I can teach Special education and even English Language Learners,

Module 1

I do not have my placement but they are thinking of putting me in a school in Mokena and I should have a placement by the end of this week! Last semester I went to a Kindergarten class in Worth. It was so fun to be with children who are starting on the bottom on the list. They all diverse in culture, mostly Arabic and  Polish... As one of my Presentations in this class, I did pick to do ELL because it is always growing and my Fiance was born in Mexico and came to America as a Sophmore. I am so proud of him how he is connecting to the American culture as I try to connect with his family is the Mexican Culture, I am trying so hard to learn Spanish still as its been 3 years, In two years my last name will be Ortiz and I will have to get more into the culture as my students will benefit from it if I decide to go for my masters in ELL. Right into the book it Page 4 it starts off with talking about "About 25% of US children under 18 are living in immigrant families" As going more into just chapter 1 there is a subtitle on page 9 with a bilingual first grade as most of the kids in that example have a  Latin culture as most the kids in my class where Arabic they had a teacher that was there three times a week and it worked out that I was there the other two. I did cross paths with her to meet her and got to know her, she was Arabic-American and she would be the one who would talk to the children's parents who were Arabic to help the teacher because there were so many children.
She let me even teach some lessons to help me learn more even though it was just for observing. I thought it was so funny when I first started with some lessons like the daily calendar and talking about the weather, I did not know the order as well as it was my first time and all the kids said no that is wrong you do this first... So I just played alone as they were teaching me. They were so used to how their teacher does the order they were lost when I went off order. As on page 45, there is a whole list of lessons for teachers and with this situation, I feel like it relates to number 4 because of how the children reacted and also the number because my teacher told them after that it is okay to go out of order sometimes because not everyone is the same and we all do things a bit different. In this class, I did learn a lot... I do really want to teach High school but I like going younger as it teaches me more and be Well Rounded. I will still try and visit the kids as they grow and learn even more in their class and I can not wait to see where I get placed this semester and to grow even more to be an amazing teacher!
